With over 40 years as an athlete, coach, trainer, teacher and student of speed science, David Washington brings to bear decades of expertise, and a passion for careful, accurate, detail-oriented, technically precise achievement of speed goals for elite-minded clients. David’s athletic and professional life has been devoted to collapsing the barriers between the body and resistance to its motion; to the belief that drag, gravity, friction and distance are finite, but the body’s potential is infinite. That asset is what David’s lifetime of study and applied science aims to unlock and optimize.
David’s experience mentoring every age and skill level – from high school freshmen to NFL wide receivers to Olympians – reflects his ability to customize training strategies, his respect for the unique resources and possibilities of each mentee, and an ability to leverage his knowledge with precision, unconstrained by norms.
The Hampton, Virginia native began embracing – and overcoming — the challenges of speed competition as a high school All-American in track, a member of a state-championship track team, a two-time state football champion, and one of the nation’s top hurdlers.
While earning his B.A. in Economics at the Virginia Military Institute, David was a two-time conference athlete of the year and an all-American, en route to induction in VMI’s alma mater Hall of Fame. He also qualified for the 1980 United States Olympic trials. David’s progress as an athlete mirrored his patient, careful dialogue with the science of speed.
David’s athletic excellence proved to be transferable during his eight-year tenure coaching the fastest track team in the nation at Junipero Serra High School. David’s teams won 10 California Interscholastic Federation titles (two girls, eight boys), led the nation in the 4×100 in back-to-back seasons, and set the California record in the 4×400 – still the second-fastest time in U.S. high school history. David coached men who would become NFL standouts while being named Coach of the Year for the South Bay three times.
David earned his Master’s degree in Education at Loyola Marymount University. He has an AA degree in Multimedia and certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, TRX, Tabata high-intensity interval training, and Coaching Levels I and II from USA Track and Field in Speed.
In Spring of 2020 worked the Chinese National Track Team for three weeks while they were in Los Angeles California.
Teaching and learning remain a tightly-coiled process for David, whose professional journey has included speed mentorship of the Los Angeles Rams’ Robert Woods, Marqise Lee of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Washington Redskin’s, Paul Richardson along with Adoree Jackosn of the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks Neiko Thorpe. Denver Broncos lineman-Dalton Risner and Carolina Panthers Quarterback-Will Grier. David also applied his kinematic expertise in working with Olympic snowboarder Shaun White.
